Organisations Invited to Apply for Fairer Aberdeen Fund to Tackle Poverty
Aberdeen City Council is inviting organisations to apply for funding through the Fairer Aberdeen Fund, aimed at addressing poverty and deprivation across the city. This funding is a key initiative to support third-sector organisations, charities, and voluntary groups in their efforts to make a difference in the lives of Aberdeen’s residents.
The Fairer Aberdeen Fund is managed by Aberdeen City Council and distributed by the Fairer Aberdeen Board, which includes representatives from local communities, the Civic Forum, the Council, the Aberdeen Health and Social Care Partnership, and the Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations (ACVO).
Councillor Alex McLellan, Convener of the Finance and Resources Committee and Chair of the Fairer Aberdeen Board, highlighted the fund’s importance:
“Tackling poverty and inequality across Aberdeen remains a top priority for Aberdeen City Council. The Fairer Aberdeen Fund provides an opportunity for organisations to do great work helping individuals, families and communities who may be facing difficulties.
I would encourage all organisations currently receiving funding, and any other organisations who believe they can make a positive impact in tackling poverty in our regeneration areas, to apply for funding for 2025/26 provided by Aberdeen City Council.”
Last year, the fund supported 38 initiatives delivered by 26 voluntary and third-sector organisations, reaching over 50,000 people. These initiatives provided critical support in areas such as:
Employability: Helping individuals find work and build skills.
Financial Inclusion: Assisting people with managing their finances and accessing benefits.
Family Support: Strengthening resources for families in need.
Youth Work: Engaging young people in meaningful activities.
Mental Health: Offering vital services to improve wellbeing.
Learning and Volunteering: Creating opportunities for education and community involvement.
Key organisations like Station House Media Unit (SHMU), Community Food Initiatives North East (CFINE), and Pathways have received funding to carry out impactful projects aimed at reducing poverty and inequality in Aberdeen.
Organisations interested in applying for the 2025/26 funding should take note of the following details:
Application Deadline: 31st January 2025.
