Restaurant - Oshibori

Oshibori is a delightful Japanese restaurant that has quickly become a local favourite. Nestled in the heart of the city, they serve up an authentic taste of Japan, making it a must visit for both sushi lovers and those looking to explore something new.

Upon entering Oshibori, you're greeted with a warm atmosphere and interesting building. Despite Oshibori being a Japense restaurant it is modelled with an European eye. It looks more like a country estate than anything Japense but still very nice. The friendly staff immediately make you feel at home, ready to guide you through their enticing menu. If you are uncertain where to start, I highly recommend trying one of their bento boxes, which not only showcase a variety of flavours but also provide a well rounded meal.

I had the pleasure of sampling both the Chicken Katsu Bento and the Sake Shio Bento, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint.

For £16.95, the Chicken Katsu Bento features panko breaded chicken breast that is crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside. It is served alongside a generous portion of rice, green salad drizzled with a lovely Japanese mayonnaise dressing, and two pieces of gyoza that are bursting with flavour. The dumplings are perfectly pan-fried, offering a satisfying crunch with every bite.

One of the standout components of the bento box is the California rolls. This dish is a delight, featuring a blend of fresh ingredients that make for a refreshing and tasty complement to the chicken. If you’re looking for a vegetarian option, just ask the staff they are more than happy to accommodate.

The bento also comes with a slice of fresh orange, which provides a lovely citrus note to balance the meal. And let’s not forget the edamame and wakame salad. The edamame is lightly salted and offers a delightful texture, while the wakame salad, with its subtle sea flavours, rounds off the meal beautifully. To top it all off, each bento box is served with a comforting bowl of miso soup, warming you from the inside out.

On the other hand, the Sake Shio Bento, priced at £17.95, features grilled salted salmon that is cooked to perfection. The salmon is rich and flaky, and the salt enhances its natural flavours without overwhelming them. Similar to the Chicken Katsu Bento, this dish also comes with the same great accompaniments, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer fish.

Both bento boxes reflect Oshibori's commitment to quality ingredients and authentic preparation techniques. Each element in the bento box complements the others, creating a harmonious balance of flavours and textures. Whether you opt for the crispy chicken or the tender salmon, you will not be disappointed.

One cannot visit a Japanese restaurant without indulging in some sake. The dry sake, in particular, is a delightful experience. It has a crisp finish that pairs wonderfully with the bento boxes, enhancing the overall meal.

The service at Oshibori deserves a mention of its own. The staff are not only attentive but also genuinely passionate about the food they serve. They take the time to explain the dishes and offer recommendations based on your preferences. This personalised touch adds to the overall dining experience and makes you feel valued as a guest.

In a city where good dining options are abundant, Oshibori stands out for its commitment to quality and authenticity. The combination of brilliantly prepared food, a welcoming atmosphere, and outstanding service makes it a destination worth visiting. Whether you are in the mood for a casual lunch or a more refined dinner experience, Oshibori is sure to impress.
